On September 3, John turned four! We have always tried to theme his birthday parties around his favorite things in life and this year, it was definitely his Elle, the elephant. When Emma was born, she gave John Elle and it has not been far from his side since! Elle is most definitely John's favorite snuggle companion! He has also liked the elephant as his favorite animal in general for awhile, so when he asked for an elephant cake this year, we weren't surprised and I was happy to oblige!
John loved to read stories, so when we moved into our new house and had a spot in his room for a nice chair for stories and quiet time, we knew it'd be a great birthday gift for him!
He was thrilled to come down that morning and see the chair waiting for him!
He also enjoyed his birthday surprise breakfast of a raised doughnut with chocolate frosting!
Opening his new board game...
This year for John's birthday, we decided to get a bounce house as a way to celebrate our new house with our neighbors and get to know them better, as well as to have a house-warming with some of our friends and then to also enjoy it during our family party. For the 36 hours we had it, I think John jumped every possible moment he could!
It was SO hot in the bounce house!
"Oh, so hot! Let me out!" says Uncle Steve.
One of John's favorite foods is pizza, so I was happy to comply with his easy dinner request!
Make a wish!
Present time! Sadly, John inherited the inability to wait to open presents from his Daddy, so any bags that arrived for his birthday, he "accidentally" moved the tissue paper to see what was in it, but then announced to everyone that he knew what was in the bag! When he sat down to open it then officially, he announced before opening it again what it was! What a twerp! I guess his presents will have to be scattered at other houses from now on and all firmly wrapped!
He was thrilled to get monster trucks (that he could decal himself before playing), an art easel and accessories, clothes, legos and a stomp rocket! What a lucky kid he is!
He couldn't wait to try the stomp rocket! Thankfully, it wasn't too windy!
Emma had fun in the bounce house and on the slide too!
That night, John was sad to see the bounce house deflated so they could load it up to take it back, but he commented that he couldn't wait until it could come to our house again because it was so much fun this time. Before the guys were able to fold it though, John had to shake hands with "Mr. Octopus" from the front of the house before he left!
John had a great birthday, but it was still hard for us to believe he was already four! At four years old, John loved being active inside the house, as well as out, and loved to be creative with art or Legos. His vocabulary and negotiation skills continued to blow us away, as he was off the charts of normal development. He is starting to show an interest in reading books on his own to and loves to write his letters and numbers in preschool workbooks. His knack for puzzles also amazes us, as he completes 100 + pieces without a second look! John was looking forward to school starting in a few days where he would meet new friends and his teachers, but there were definite nerves around starting a new adventure too! We knew he would do well though in all that was to come!
